Household Pests

I have a clean house. How did I get roaches?
The most common ways are that you brought them in or they found an entryway. Roaches will hitch a ride home in grocery bags, cartons, and on produce. They will also enter through loose or open doors and windows and through cracks in the wall or roof.
It's embarrassing to have cockroaches but are they really a health hazard?
Yes. Not only do they spread disease carrying bacteria but research shows that roaches cause severe allergies. In addition to their health hazard, they will damage food, fabric, books and much more.
Since I moved to Florida, I see very large insects that my neighbor calls Palmetto bugs. What are they?

Many people refer to American or Australian cockroaches as "Palmetto bugs". They get their nickname from the pioneer days of Florida when much of it was covered by Palmettos. These insects preferred to live in the Palmettos and thus were nicknamed "Palmetto bug".

Is there something special that you do for "Palmetto bugs"?
Since large roaches are very common to our region, we thoroughly treat the outside of each home. We want to control these outdoor insects before they become indoor pests.
I have a dog and a cat. It seems that I'm always bothered by fleas. Is this something I just have to put up with?
Not at all. We use a product that not only kills the adult fleas but also has an insect growth regulator (IGR) that keeps the eggs from developing into adult biting fleas.
I have two small children. Is your treatment sound?
Yes. We place the products in cracks, crevices, voids, and use bait stations. This gives more effective control and keeps the products away from people and pets.

Termites

How can I reduce my chances for getting termites?

  • Don't place shrubs or other plants near the foundation of your house.
  • Don't put mulch, especially wood chip mulch, next to the house.
  • Don't affix wooden trellises to exterior walls.
  • Keep wood debris, fire wood and scrap lumber away from the house.
  • Remove infested trees and stumps.
  • If you have a leaking water spigot/faucet on the outside of your house, fix the leak.
  • Be certain that the downspouts from the gutters drain away from the house.
  • Be certain that the finished soil grade also drains away from the house.
  • Avoid having a sprinkler system that splashes onto your house or a sprinkler system where the emitter heads are nearly adjacent to the outside walls of your house.
  • Termites are attracted to wood and wet soil conditions - so the goal is to keep cellulose based products away from your house as well as do what you can to keep things dry near the house.

My house is built on a slab - doesn't that make it termite proof?

Slab construction offers many opportunities for termites to gain entrance through expansion joints, cracks and minute gaps around plumbing. Termites will not penetrate solid concrete, but they can penetrate very small minute concrete cracks. Once you carpet a slab do you know if minute concrete cracks have occurred? Carpeting over a slab can hide such cracks.

What makes Termidor different from other termite treatments?

Termites can't detect it. They forage freely in a treated area. Termidor is lethal to termites that ingest or contact it. A termite carries it back to the colony and infects every other termite they contact.

How quickly does Termidor work?

Termites that come in contact with Termidor will die In 3 months or less.

How long does it last?

For 5 years. Your pest control professional will conduct inspections annually to make sure that it's still working.

Will it kill all of the termites, or just some?

Termidor's unique mode of action achieves 100% control of termites in 3 months or less. This 'termite control' is not just limited to the termites who happen to forage in the soil treated with Termidor. Termites are social insects living in large nests, often underground. Our research has shown that termites foraging through treated soil come in contact with Termidor but do not die quickly, these contaminated termites contact others in the nest (by food transfer, grooming or just climbing over and rubbing against each other) and transfer Termidor to these other termites. No other termiticide or termite-control system has achieved the same level of efficacy as Termidor.

Does Termidor have an odor?

No, Termidor is odor free.

Is Termidor safe?

The active ingredient in Termidor, fipronil, has been used since 1995 for flea and tick control on millions of cats and dogs. Termidor is fully approved by the EPA as well as other government authorities around the world.

Can I apply it myself?

No. Termidor can and must only be applied by a Certified Termidor Professional. Type your zip code into the search box at the top of this page to find a Termidor Certified Professional in your area.

Who makes Termidor?

Aventis Environment Science, the world's largest environmental science company.

Is Termidor Available Everywhere?

Currently, Termidor is registered in all states except New York and Alaska.

Fumigation

Why is there an odor after my home has been fumigated?

Sometimes if you have plants that are covered they often produce an odor after fumigation, this is to be expected to happen and should not be a concern.

Why do I have ants in my house shouldn’t everything be DEAD!!?

Yes everything under the tarps ARE dead, however the ants move into your property immediately after the tarps come down and feed on the dead insects that are in or under your home. GPS recommends a regular pest control program immediately following your fumigation. Please contact our office for additional information.
